The Holyoke Merry-Go-Round spins in the southwest portion of
Heritage State Park in downtown Holyoke along one of the city's
canals. Also located within the park is the Children's Museum,
and the Volleyball Hall of Fame.
Holyoke Heritage State Park celebrates the history and culture
of the City of Holyoke, Massachusetts. It is operated and managed
by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
The Park features include a visitor center with exhibits about
paper manufacturing and Holyoke's industrial and cultural history.
The site in which Heritage State Park has been built was once
the land used by the William Skinner Silk Mill. Heritage State
Park was planned after Skinner's mill burned down.
The revitalized canal between Dwight and Appleton streets will
be the site of many art exhibits and craft fairs. One longtime
resident put it this way, "I think this canal walk, the museum
and the carousel bring a vitality to the downtown. I came back
to ride the carousel, which I rode when I was a kid."
